INTRODUCING THE BRIDERIE
As our longest standing stockist, The Briderie has been a modern bridal oasis for our southern brides since Unbridled Studio’s early days. The Briderie focuses on a contemporay take on bridal styling, serving fashion-forward brides for chic city ceremonies right the way through to luxey country house events. Based in Tunbridge Wells; The Briderie is a stone’s throw from London and it is fast carving a reputation as a go-to boutique for brides looking for a modern aesthetic and independent luxury designers.
We spoke to Fiona, the founder of The Briderie to hear more about her boutique and her journey
What inspired you to open The Briderie?
I have always found myself inspired by bridal fashion. I studied fashion and textiles, and went on to have a career in fashion buying but it wasn't until my own engagement in 2021, when I finally felt immersed in the bridal space (not just via my secret Pinterest moodboard) where I actually contemplated starting something that had just been a little idea in my head for years. It was at a time where brides had just begun really engaging with social media and using it as a tool for wedding planning so I created a 'bridal inspiration' Instagram account for the modern bride and wrote my first business plan. It was just after the pandemic where I saw such a shift in bridal aesthetics and recognised a gap in the market for a refined, modern interpretation of the 'bridal boutique' experience. Whilst on maternity leave in 2023, I felt it was a now or never opportunity to build something that reflected both my professional background combined with my personal love for bridal, fashion and styling. I started with a vision board of my plan and gently reached out to a very selective shortlist of bridal designers I hoped to be a stockist for. I didn't have much to start with except a lot of drive and ambition to build something really innovative and credible in the bridal space. It felt at the time if you considered yourself a 'modern bride', there weren't many bridal destinations catering for this.
What is your vision for The Briderie?
My dream was to create a considered sanctuary for the non-traditional, relaxed bride. I wanted to offer a space that allows thoughtful choice without overwhelm, allowing each bride to feel inspired, supported and fully present as she creates memorable moments with her loved ones, which I believe is the charm and whole point of the 'bridal boutique' experience. The vision for the bridal collection has always been inspired by my own wedding in 2022, where my dress and accessories were styled in multiple iterations throughout the day. I experienced firsthand the power of versatility in bridal styling. That transformative quality has since become the foundation of our curated bridal collection. I have always been passionate about offering brides the opportunity to curate their wedding wardrobe with intention, embracing versatile styling, delicate layering that feels unique and makes semi-bespoke bridalwear feel accessible. I am a minimalist-maximalist at heart and I believe The Briderie through its retail space, brand identity and partnerships reflect this aesthetic.
Describe the experience for brides visiting The Briderie from the moment they walk through the door.
From the moment a bride engages in advance of the appointment, we connect with each bride either via email, text or call (their preference) to ensure we make the most of our 90 minutes together, selecting pieces either based on their requests or inspired by the vision they have shared with us. Unlike most traditional bridal boutiques, we encourage brides to explore the collection first hand at the beginning of the fitting. Our modern bride often knows what she wants (or doesn't want!) and our approach reflects that. What I feel most proud of, is when a bride asks us to show and replicate one of our styled bridal looks we have curated for one of our many styled editorial shoots, it feels incredibly rewarding and validating. Many brides arrive feeling nervous (especially if we are the first ever bridal appointment, which we often are) so we begin with an informal chat, usually over some bubbles, before trying on gowns. We move entirely at the bride’s pace, offering guidance only to the degree she desires. Bridal styling really is my true passion and for the open-minded brides, this is where the magic happens. Together, we play with layering, separates, and accessories, creating unique bridal looks that feel entirely personal. As a rule, it's a no pressure environment. Authenticity, honesty and fun guide every step of the process. We want each bride to leave with a joyful, memorable experience of her wedding dress journey whether she finds 'the one' with us or not.
What do you look for when selecting gowns and designers for your boutique?
As I began building The Briderie, it was essential that the bridal brands we partnered with reflected not only a strong design perspective, but also held like minded ethical values. I have committed to working predominantly with female founders & designers who prioritise luxury fabrics and UK-based production, ensuring craftsmanship of the highest standard while keeping our carbon footprint as minimal as possible. One of the aspects I admire most about bridal manufacturing is its intentionality, there is no excess production, no unnecessary waste and overconsumption, only pieces that are genuinely desired and thoughtfully made for each bride. Design integrity has always been non-negotiable, the collections we curate must be design-led, with a totally original handwriting as well as a contemporary approach . I have consciously chosen not to collaborate with brands that chase trends or rely on mass overseas production. Each bridal brand we partner with offers something totally unique and irreplaceable. In terms of selecting individual gowns, it can be challenging not to get carried away sometimes, especially when you love a designer's whole collection, it's a process of strategy, careful range building and even trust in the partnership with the designer. For me, I believe it's also important to follow your heart. I genuinely don't carry any gown in my studio that I don't love myself. I am my own customer, which really helps. I really only want to form partnerships with small independent bridal designers where we have a direct line of open and transparent communication. Even though I run a very small intimate bridal studio compared to some, I still want to feel valued and supported by the designers we carry.
Tell us what you love about Unbridled Studio?
What I love about Unbridled Studio is its authenticity and commitment to following its own path and maintaining such a strong brand identity. The identity of the brand hasn't wavered from the beautiful bridal designs themselves (it's telling that we're still seeing success from some of the very original designs) to the stunningly innovative marketing and the partnerships it cultivates. Nothing feels contrived or too trend-driven instead, the collection always feels intentional, confident and entirely true to its identity. I've adored growing together as one of the very first stockists starting our journeys at similar times and feel very proud to be a partner. Since the very first day I excitedly came across Unbridled Studio via their Instagram page I have been drawn to the way each piece works so effortlessly in harmony with another and it's so comforting to know as a partner that each season we're building and evolving our bridal collection for new brides, not starting from scratch each season.
The Briderie will be hosting the COLLECTION IV trunk show between 3rd and 6th September 2026. Spaces are limited so early booking is essential. Follow the link below to secure your spot.
